Are safety trainers allowed on-site?
Yes. Although standard trainers would not be allowed on site due to regulations put in place by the Health and Safety Executive, purpose-built trainers with certain protective features can be worn with your site manager’s approval instead of work boots.
Safety trainers can come with a range of different safety features, but the most important will be a reinforced design. This should include a steel toe cap, and a metal or reinforced midsole to protect you from sharp objects underneath. Many styles of safety trainers will also be heat-resistant, oil-resistant and should include lugs or some kind of grip pattern to prevent slips and falls at work.
These days, many tradesmen and outdoor workers prefer safety trainers to work boots for certain jobs, as the low-rise design can allow for freedom of movement. The materials used are often lightweight and breathable, helping you to stay fresh and cool whilst working.
